Wildscaping: Landscaping for Wildlife - October 6, 2017 - 9:00-10:30 am
Native plants and special features can create a beautiful landscape that invites wildlife to neighborhoods and campuses. By adding drought hardy native plants that provide food and refuge for local wildlife to your garden, you can help a variety of birds, butterflies, and pollinators, including our declining Monarch populations during their migration. As a homeowner, you can make a big difference on your small urban lot to benefit wildlife, add to the beauty of your yard, and create a positive effect on our environment. This is the perfect time of year to learn how to avoid chemicals and use less water in your yard. We will end the class with a short hike to check out beneficial plants growing on Headwaters Sanctuary. Our presenter, Judit Green, is an Urban Wildlife Biologist with Texas Parks & Wildlife Department for the past 23 years. She was integral in the development of the Texas Master Naturalists™ program, founded in San Antonio in 1996, and remains a chapter advisor. A contributor to the book, Texas Wildscapes: Gardening for Wildlife, Ms. Green is active with the Texas Children in Nature Collaborative in San Antonio and the Alamo Area Monarch Collaborative promoting pollinator plants within our Monarch Champion City. The class is limited to 20.
