FEATURED PROJECT: CIRCLE OF THE SPRINGS

Headwaters invites the San Antonio community to help us maintain the Circle of the Springs Garden. With input from local indigenous community members, this garden was installed to honor the 12,000 years of Native American cultural history at the head of the San Antonio River. The 80-foot diameter limestone structure is be filled with 43 native pollinating plants, (groundcovers, perennials, and shrubs) to educate the public on the importance of providing sustenance for pollinators like the migratory Monarch butterfly.

Frequently asked questions:

HOW do I volunteer?

Please contact volunteer@headwaters-iw.org to add your name to our volunteer roster. We will email our volunteer calendar to you. We ask volunteers to sign up for their preferred volunteer dates. We monitor session headcounts to ensure we have sufficient field supervision, supplies, and equipment. At times, we meet at different locations so signing up is essential to know where to meet us.

Volunteers bring their own personal water supply. We will be working in rough terrain, please wear closed-toe shoes. We have poison ivy in the Sanctuary. Long pants and sleeved shirts are recommended. All volunteers must complete an annual liability release form. Documents for minor children must include a parent/guardian signature.

Can I register a group to volunteer?

Please contact volunteer@headwaters-iw.org for additional information. We do welcome scheduled volunteer groups.

Can I request a special volunteer day for my group, outside of the normally scheduled workdays?

Yes. You are welcome to reach out to us to request a workday. If field supervision is available, we can add your event to our internal calendar.

How old do you need to be to volunteer?

Depending on the tasks for the day, we have had children as young as six years of age volunteer. They usually assist with litter pick up, weeding, and other less intensive tasks. When signing up for a specific session, please let us know if you will be accompanied by minor children. All minors under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.

Can I volunteer in the field if I have limited mobility?

Specify you have limited mobility in the application and we will be sure to assign you to a task that meets your needs.

Do you have any non-fieldwork volunteer opportunities?
