Our Top FIVE WORST Plant Invaders Prevalent Throughout San Antonio

The Headwaters BIG FIVE: Ligustrum, Chinaberry, Chinese Tallow, Nandina, and Catsclaw Vine. This invasive plant workshop will provide information and hands-on instruction. Learn how to identify these plants. Why are they environmentally and economically harmful?  The program will provide general management/control and eradication strategies. Learn how to safely work with the appropriate herbicides for your landscape. Herbicide preparation, application methods, and climate issues will be discussed. And, most importantly why native plants are a better option.

Join Cheryl Hamilton and Peter Pierson for this comprehensive workshop. Ms. Hamilton is a retired educator, certified Master Naturalist, and member of the local Native Plant Society. Cheryl has completed all three levels of the NPSOT Native Landscape Certification Program and is a Certified Interpretive Guide with the National Association for Interpretation. She co-founded the Balcones Chapter of the Invaders of Texas Program in 2010.  The Balcones Chapter volunteers have contributed more than 10,000 volunteer hours to eradicate more than 100,000 invasive plants.  Their motto is: “Stop the Spread, Spread the Word, Just Do It!” Cheryl consults with parks, preserves, and nonprofits to transform traditional landscapes to wildlife and pollinator habitats.  Her motto is, “If You Plant It, They Will Come!”

Mr. Pierson has with the San Antonio River Authority as part of their Watershed and Park Operations Department for ten years. He has been involved with sustainable landscaping and irrigation for the Mission Reach Ecosystem Project, the Museum Reach Project, and Low Impact Development Projects both on SARA sites and with other San Antonio partners.
